Traditional Colombian Dishes You Must Try in South Florida
July 9, 2020
Colombian food is very diverse, with each region of the country having its own characteristic dishes: a cuisine handed down through generations and influenced by indigenous, Spanish, African and Arab cultures.
This isn't a complete list, but these are some of the most representative dishes from Colombia, all of them on our menu.
Bandeja paisa
Considered one of the best Colombian dishes, its main feature is the generous amount and variety of food: white rice, red beans, ground beef or top round steak, sweet plantains, chicharrón, arepa, avocado, a fried egg and Colombian sausage.
Pargo frito
The popular whole deep-fried red snapper, served with white rice, fried green plantains and salad. A classic fish from the Colombian Caribbean.
Agua de panela
A very traditional drink all over Colombia, made from panela (unrefined cane sugar). We serve it with a refreshing twist: iced, with lime.
Sancocho
A traditional soup made with hen, oxtail or beef, with large pieces of plantain, potato, cassava and corn. At El Balcón, sancocho is a weekend tradition.
